Hi, i really like firemouth ciclids :) and was told at a maidenhead that firemouths would kill my angel  , my angel is fully grown, does anyone know if this info is good, if its write is there similar sized cichlids i can keep with my angel. my tank is 400L 5 foot. Other fish in tank are :
6 denison barbs, 3 silver sharks, 4 clown loach.

Touch and go with FM's, they can be aggressive, but depends on the individual fish, if you like FM's, why not look at some of the other Thorichthys species, like Ellioti or Aureus, both much more placid and IMO beautiful Thorichthys species :good:

Thanks, i like them  , are they easy to find?

The Ellioti relatively easy to find, the Aureus not so much (least not in the UK).

I'm interested in the Ellioti, i see in your signature that you keep them, are they best kept in pairs? Do they eat plants? Sorry for all the questions :fun: Cant wait to have some cichlids that arn't angels. My ph is 7.5 is that ok?

I currently have 4 Ellioti (originally had 6 but lost 2), got them from a member on here, star4 (Birmingham if your close, she still has some).

They are fine singularly or as a group, if you have a group, obviously you may well end up with a pair, although mine havent yet paired up, but in large tank, that wont be a problem as even when spawning, they are still relatively peaceful (for a cichild). My ph is 7.4 (7.8 from tap) so 7.5 is fine, no they dont eat plants that Ive noticed, but my severums take care of plants

Thats good, a small group will be good, Birmingham is a bit far as i'm south east. I like severums, but i also like my plants, maybe i have another tank for severums and firemouths at some point

Thats if they are compatible

I would go with SA Cichlids with Angels, CA's have a bad habit of being really good thne a year or 2 down the line *SNAP* then heartbreak follows.

Even things like Rainbow Cichlids can flip (mine did in the past)

have a look at Blue Acaras, Rams, keyholes or Festivums instead of FM's etc.
