4 ft tank. FIREMOUTH CICHLIDs how many can i put in ? at moment thinking of having just these fish in there unless you have any good ideas for other fish i know they cant go in a community peacefully

A four foot tank is perfect for two pairs. For tankmates you can keep them with bottom feeders and top dwellers, but because of their behavior and spawning habits mid dwellers are best avoided.

An 18" deep tank (75 gallon) gives you more to work with then a 12" tank (55 gallon) but it's the length that determines how many cichlids you can keep, so it will be two pairs either way.

its 4 ft long by 1 ft and i can keep 4 fish in there is there a better alternative to house more fish? i wanted a rocky aqua scene with lots of holes for them to hide in

Firemouths aren't the fish you're looking for then, they're open water spawners.

Neetroplus nematopus is an example of a new world cichlid that naturally inhabit rocky areas and will take more advantage of the kind of setup you are looking for.

You may want to consider checking out some Africans instead though. There is no lack of charming Tanganyikan rock dwelling species good for a tank of this size, and if you wanted a very busy all cichlid tank you can consider mbuna too.
