So today it was raining so i travelled over to Maidenhead Aquatics near Oakham in Rutland. I got some corydoras sterbai and also got a fintro. If you havent heard of these and dont know what they are visit the maidenhead aquatic site online and search for them. MA is the only place to sell them apart from them popping up on ebay. Basically it is a two tier clear plastic tank which you use to introduce new fish into your tank. You put your fish into this plastic container with some of the water that they came in. In the plastic container is a small hole which when you put the container into your aquarium slowly feeds water into the container and acclimatizes them over a period of about 30 mins. Slowly the container fills up ,the container then slowly sinks and the fish escape into the tank and you retrieve the container, simple. Gill on here has one and showed me how effective it was last time i was over visiting. Only 3.99, i used it today and i recommend it. :good:

It sounds interesting, though is makes a classic mistake in fishkeeping probably a little too easy: namely, not quarantining your fish for at least 3 weeks and preferably at least 6. Because this makes introducing fish so easy, I think it may encourage people to introduce them too quickly before quarantine and introduce diseases to tank quickly.

Yes true- a valid point-though there are a large amount of people who cant quarantine. Its a gamble-though ich can be bought on by careless transferring from shop to tank etc and then maybe the customer will think they have a poorly fish and blame the shop. For people who cant quarantine i think its got to be a good idea.

Yes i am one of those who can't quarantine anymore, so i have to be careful and one precaution i take is that i never tip water from the shop into my tank which may be another drawback of this product.

Umm, so when you guys quarantine a fish you dont acclimate it? You just take the fish out of the bag and hook shot it into the tank?

no no!! you have to float the bag and add small amounts of water from the tank to the bag over about 20mins ( thats what i do) then... u hook shot it  same with any other trnsfer, keeping the lights off for a while is good too
tho i have read that it takes days for a fish to adjust rather than mins/hours, but i do it this way and am happy with it

they look like a good idea Paul, wonder if they do one oscar size

Might cost a bit Shelagh!!! It says not too exceed 12 cms of fish to be introduced at one time. Its fine for fry and smallish young fish and obviously would be useful for people using quarantine tanks too.

ah right,in which case they will be ideal for moving my krib fry... ok, ill have my mum send one up from Cardiff :) MA is not in scotland :(

i was looking at 1 of those myself yesterday and said to my missus i want 1. so it is as good as it sounded then? sheilagh you can get them from maidenhead aquatics online delivered

No need to leave a bag of fish in a tank acclimatizing, then releasing them after so long-it's all done for you.
