Hello,
I am trying to determine in my betta has finrot and then how to treat. There is so much conflicting information on the net, so looking for some advice from experts.
We have had our betta about 6 months. He lives in a 10 gal, cycled and planted tank. He has a filter (I use Seachem matrix along with perigen and the tetra whisper quiet bio sponge that comes with the whisper quiet filter) as my bio media. I keep his temp at @ 80/81 (just lowered to @78/79).
We had a bout of brown diatoms that I removed with sponges and water changes. We are currently fighting bluegreen algae. Water parameters seem good and stabilize to the following @ 12 hours after water changes (our water is high in chlorine/choralmine):
ammonia 0
nitrites 0
nitrates between 5-10
phosphates 0
PH @ 7.6
I do use Seachem Prime with every water change. I change water weekly @ 30%.
Today, in an effort to fight the bluegreen algae I completely removed everything from the tank (including plants) and scrubbed everthing with hot water, soaked in conditioned water for 20 minutes, vacuumed gravel, cleaned all filter media in tank water and rebuilt the tank.
But I noticed black marks on our betta's fins and am unsure what I am looking at.
Also, we recently added a nerite snail (just one) - which really stressed out betta out (giving the nerite to a local fish store who agreed to take it tomorrow.
Here are some pictures of our betta. Any advice would be greatly appreciate.
Thank you.
