Yes, a very good point and I agree. Many ways to have successful tanks!
Two very interesting topics there - pardon me if I'm oversimpifying... Isn't the E.I. Natural planted tank approach related in some ways to Diana Walstad's work? I just missed hearing her give a talk at our local society. She really puts some real mud down there for the plants I believe (again to over-simplify!) Will enjoy hearing reports of how this goes for you oldman!
And the second topic, I think I had already mentioned.. that of the existance of filters specifically designed for nitrates - a whole big fascinating thread out there somewhere on TFF. My concern here was this: attempting to put a fine-substance slow filtration bag into the middle of one of our normal traditional filters certainly must raise concerns that the mechanical and biofiltration functions of these filters may be compromised. For me it just raises too many flags of concern - that was the main thing.
One thing that was unknown initially was the apparent water quality problem that Solexis was dealing with at his location. One of my stereotypes of german towns would have been that they would be very fastidious about their water systems, but he may have an unusual case.
