Hi
60L tank in progress but you can see where it's going.
Currently have 15 Microdevario Kubotai & Amano's (the Bol Ram isn't staying)
PH 7.5, GH 9 KH 5
looking for a pair/trio of something, preferably Asian but doesn't have to be.Had thoughts about Badis Badis

Possibly some sparking gouramis or a male or female betta or maybe a pair of wild betta

Look those up :)

Possibly some sparking gourami [bold] this is a good idea [/bold]
or a male or female Betta [bold] a male MIGHT work in this tank, but females should be kept in groups of 5+ to spread aggression amongst them. [/bold]
or maybe a pair of wild betta [bold] male and female bettas shouldn't be kept together or else one or the other will most likely be killed [/bold]

Look those up :)

I made comments in bold. I suggest a trio of pearl gouramis. Stunning fish.

Aren't wild bettas and betta imbellis supposed to be able to live in pairs?

i thought you were able to keep them in their pairs, i nearly brought a wild caught male and female pair as they were only selling as pairs where i looked so surely you must be able too, or would they just be too agressive when breeding ?

Imbellis is said to not fight. Now I'm not entirely sure, as I've only had veiltails and was lucky they didn't fight while in a group of 4.

i've only had experience keeping one betta without the company of his own kind, so i wouldnt know, but i would like to learn about :)

I had 0 experience when I got those 4, they killed my zebra danios and bit the tails and heads of my guppies and they were picking on a swordtail too. They managed to chop part of a hoplo's dorsal fin.
Then they all got moved to a 25L bowl and lived for about a year or so until I messed up majorly and fed them some pellets that killed a pair, while the other pair died during a water change too hot for them...
I didn't have internet then and my friend had no idea how to keep the bettas either when she gave them to me.

There are several betta species that do well in pairs or groups, Betta cocciana comes to mind. Perhaps you should look at Dario dario, related to Badis badis but much more colorful.

Beautiful setup by the way.

not all bettas fight. A lot of them do well in pairs or groups, betta splendens is not the only species of betta fish.

females can be kept alone, they don't have to be in a sorority. If they're kept by themselves species wise, they don't have anything to fight with........

60 liters is too small for a trio of pearl gouramis imo. they should be kept in something of a 20 gallon tank.

I'm definitely a fan of the licorice gourami idea, as well as the dario dario or badis badis, but not too big on dwarf gouramis due to their horrible immune systems these days.

I agree, pearls are far too big for a tank this size, but smaller gouramis would work - honeys or a group of sparklers.

Wild betta species can be kept in pairs :good:

Some nice ideas
Thanks for all the Betta suggestions sadly, they don't really grab me for some reason

Still need the carpet to spread, & the back left to fill out.I like the idea of Scarlet Badis, but worry they're a little timid. There are journals on here where they're rarely seen.

i definitely like the look of the Licourice Gourami, but unsure if my water really suits them,so the Sparklers might be a better option.
Anyone else?
