Hi
this my first post to the forum and i am a proud fry owner. My female platy who i bought two weeks ago finally had her babies yesterday while i was work, go figure...lol . I still have two in the tank  with the rest in a breeding net. just can not seem to catch those two, they are hiding real well, except the rest of the fish seem to be hovering on the side of the tank where the fry are and i've been trying to get them to stay on the other side of the tank away from the fry but its not working

So i guess its gonna be survival pf the fittest for those two unless i figure out a way to catch them

Debbie

well one of the two in the tank decided to either be brave or suicidal.... by venture out to the other side of the tank in plain sight...  luckly i managed to catch it, so i have one lonley little fry left now to try to catch,, problem is my female guppies are hanging around right above it in the corner

Actually since the babies arrived all my fish have been acting strange and i think the liquid fry stuff is making my tank cloudy

well it seems i was way off on how many fry were still left in the tank. I noticed another last night. This morning i decided to make a move and get them out so moved some rocks and it turns there were still 4 :look: ... manged to rescue 3 of the little guys but one is stil MIA. so far count is 18 :good: think , would be easier if they would just stop moving around :shifty:

I got a surprise today, it seems the little MIA fry isnt so MIA anymore i saw it floating at the back of the tank looking for food. I dont think i am going to rescue it , i am going to see if it survies on it's own and i think i am going to name it MIA. The next few weeks should be interesting to see it survives.

one question...do u know how to breed the fish... have been trying soo hard to get my fish to breed.
do u just put them together in a small isolation tank and wait till they breed?

Breeding livebearers is easy Lawrence. Put them together in the same tank and leave them alone. A few weeks later, make sure the female has a safe place to have her fry. After the fry are born, remove the female and feed the fry. Depending on which livebearer, you can even skip some steps if there are no other kinds of fish in the tank. For goodeids, place males and females in the tank and come back a few months later with a net to remove some of the fry so the tank doesn't get too crowded.

Update on Mia Mia is still floating around in the main tank, so far so good  :good:

UPDATE on MIA Platy fry

i made a shocking discovery this morning it turns out MIA is not alone in the main tank!! While watching my fish this morning i saw something move out of the corner of my eye and under neath this low compact fake plant i put in the tank near the front i discovered 2 baby platy from the drop two weeks ago, and its not MIA since MIA the fry i named as she/he is located on the other side of the tank in a different plant. So it seems i have 3 baby fry to watch for now. Hiopefully another three weeks they will be big enough to venture out a little further and not get eaten, only time will tell.

Go fishies :good:

When you start seeing them more, like you are, it is often because the fry are feeling safer. That means they will soon be swimming freely around the tank.

Well the other day i did a water change on the main tank and stayed away from the areas that i had seen fry swimming aound. Later that day i kept looking for mia and didnt see her, wasnt worried then the next day still looking for mia still didnt see it anywhere so finally around dinner time i decided to check the filter and sure enough there it was swimming around so since i had it trapped i poured the water from the filter into a bucket and puttmia in my 10 gallon fry tank with the rest of platy fry so now i have the other two still in the main tank.

This morning however in the fry tank i have a fry who i noticed a few days ago isnt swimming very well just scoots along the floor of the tank while the rest are swimming in the top or middle. This fry also looks weird i thought at first its tail was crooked but its body isnt quite right either cant really explain it but looking at the other fry its defifintely not right. This morning this fry is on its side and close to death and i have finally figured out what the difference is after taking a close look at the other fry. I believe this fry was born backwards i know your probly thinking what is she talking about? well let me try to explain... The fry that are healthy and swimming i observed they have a shiny part on the bottom of their bellys and the orange part is on the top they are see through sort of cause you can see their spine and such now that they are bigger.

The fry who is dying has the shiny spot on top and orange on the bottom and its spine is really short barely has a tail at all.

Now when i put mia in the fry tank she is twice as small as the other fry but thats because she has been in the main tank and the fry who is dying is actually smaller than mia so i have the fry in the net still in the water cause it still alive just not swimming or moving.

Im wondering how this fry manged to survive this long since its been almost three weeks since they were born.

Should i be worried about the rest of fry and could this be a gentic problem
