I've been having some problems in my tank lately with fish dying but after some great help on here from @wilder and a few others my remaining fish are on the mend and looking a lot happier and healthier.

I've been after a piece of wood as a centrepiece for months, to finish the look off, but haven't found anything I have liked enough to justify the insane prices of wood.

I tried one piece.....

Which I had to cut....

But after 2 months of soaking, and water that still looked like strong tea and more bouyancy than a life jacket I gave up on it.

It's my birthday today (yay!) so me and the missus have taken the day off work and visited a variety of LFS today in search of bits for the tank and found a great piece of wood :)

I've been after a spindly bit like a tree branch that the fish can swim around and through and hey presto, I found a piece....

I've given it a good scrub and its currently in the bath to see how many tannins are released...

I think its a great piece and only cost £24, a bargain as far as I'm concerned.

There is only one problem, I have to figure out how to fit it in my tank......I have a juwel vision 180 bow front, but forgot it has a support bar that runs across the top through the middle....I measured the piece before I bought it and it will fit but I don't know if I can fit it around or twist it past the support....

I'll find out tomorrow.

But with my fish getting better and hopefully the perfect piece of wood, I have a renewed enthusiasm for fish :)

Hadn't thought about it but I can do if you want it. :good:

If you're willing to cover the delivery cost I'll take £10 for it, it cost me more than that.

It has been cut as per picture 2 from my first post and needs soaking for a good while still.

Let me know and I'll get a delivery quote for you.

I'm in the pub getting drunk now so can't tonight but I'll measure it tomorrow with my hangover  and give you a size :good:

Really nice find there. Should be able to twist and turn it to get it in the tank.

Happy Birthday! :shout:

I'm soooo hungover today :-(

I feel rough as hell, stopped peuking about an hour ago, I don't like sambuca, never have, never will, but somehow I always end up drinking some.

I still can't sit up without feeling ill so I'll measure the wood tomorrow before I go to watch the mighty seagulls smash Middlesbrough.

Yes it is an Xbox you see, I think I signed up to live, but I don't get to play on it too much anymore :-(

The title on this thread made me think of that u2 song... Lol

I dont like u2. (bit thats just my opinion) hahaha

When I wrote it I did actually have that song in my head

And I agree with you, I don't like U2 either, very over rated. :good:

At least I can sit up now, I've been horizontal all day, and I've managed to eat some toast, I haven't had an all day hangover for years. I think I drank waaay too much last night, and this is the first time I've stayed in on a Friday night for a longgggggg time.

Feels strange and Friday night tv is garbage

Lmao yeap i agree.

Cant memba the last time I had a hangover. Lol suppose it would mean i would need to drink haha. Not the biggest fan of drinking die to the fact it gives me terrible hangovers.

Wood looks good btw very good cant wait to see some pictures of it in your tank!

UPDATE

Tried putting this branch in the tank today.......

AND I CAN'T GET IT IN

I've tried it every way, and even used force and it won't go, the support over the top of the tank is in the way.

I've completely ruined my planting and stirred up loads of crap from the gravel and plants.

Basically I've ruined my tank this morning.

When I gave up I sat down and saw my paradise fish pecking at something so I had a closer look and he was munching on a woodlouse

On closer inspection there must have been 15 in there. They must have come out of the wood when I submerged it, but the wood has been in the bath for 2 days and I gave it a thorough scrub!!!!!!!!

I'm sitting here a little pissed off now at a ruined tank, the wood is back in the bath, but I need a shower before I head off to the football in an hour.

Thought fish keeping was supposed to be a relaxing, peaceful hobby?????!!!!!!!

On a sidenote, I was thinking about trying some shrimp in there and wasn't sure if they'd get eaten, now I know!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fish keeping is a relaxing peaceful hobby..... Once you get your tank how you like it lol I remember when I did a water change in one of my old jewel vision 260 tanks and afterwards my APS EF2000+ filter wouldn't prime properly... I was there for ages trying but it was still making an awful noise, think there was trapped air but all I know is I was moments away from smashing the filter up lol

Once it eventually primed I had a nice peaceful tank again...

Sorry to hear that could u not trim some parts and kinda make it fit?

Shame really its a nice piece of wood. As for the wood louse (or slaters as their called in scotland lol no idea why) shouldnt do any harm i feed my fish them all the time and they love them sometimes it causes a fight on who gets to eat it.

Hopfully you find a way to get it in. Im fortunate as i dont have any bracing on my tank. Unsure if its a good thing or bad. Does make it alot easier for cleaning and catching fish.
