Finally Found Something He Likes

after trying various veggies (trevor) the pleco didnt bother with them.. I tried zucchini and he cant get enough of it.

My two turned their noses up at a lot of things too. You will probably find he also likes cucumber. Mine are partial to sweet peppers water melon, courgette, cucumber and sweet potato only.

Try slices of butternut squash too. Loads of fish love that ! Needs to be frozen/thawed or zapped in a microwave first.

Sorry, just thought id point out that he's a bristle nose ancistrus, not a plecostomus. He's beautiful though!

sorry to sound dumb, but is there much difference? he was advertised as a BN plecostomus.. i should maybe ask more questions when buying

In general usage the word "pleco" or "plecostomus" covers a huge range of genera of loricariid catfish.
Ancistrus (bristlenose) cats are definately part of that whole group. So I think that a description of your fish as a "BN plecostomus" is fine.
Some people might be rather more specific about what they personally consider as a "pleco", but the description of a BN as a pleco certainly fits within normal usage, as far as I am concerned.

My plecs love zucchini,cucumberand boiledpotato.never tried watermelon or squash.

Where did you get that amazing transparent plastic veg holder from? I'd like one!

I've still not found anything at all that my Golden Nugget Pleco will eat apart from pumpkin.....and I'm sure there wouldn't be an abundant supply of that in his natural environment

got the clips from my LFS. £1.99 for 2 i think they were.

we tried sweet potato last night and it went untouched, changed it this morning to zucchini and within 5mins he was out attacking it.

Did you soften the sweet potato for a few secs in the microwave? - sometimes they are too hard

So far, my BN plec only likes 'tank glass', 'Heater plastic', 'Filter casing' and the odd bit of bogwood

yeah always soften the veg up for him.. he must be a fussy eater..

I find my Male is far more reluctant to eat vegetables than the female. Its pretty funny how fish eat land vegetables, I went to a marine aquarium once and there were yellow tangs eating broccoli.

Oh dont get me wrong, i know a lot of places sell ancistrus as bristlenose plecs and yes they are definatly of the loricariidae family, but so are otocinclus and panaques. Its such a shame to label so many different species under the name of just one species.
Why, oh way cant an ancistrus just be an ancistrus!
