By the time you have added suitable groups (8 of each) of your "must haves" except the BN, you will be fully stocked.

really!

iv been using one of those online calculators just as an estimate and it says only 50% with what u just said. i know there not reliable though.

would really love to fit some emerald dwarf rasbora if i could. is there no way round this? would they even be OK with the other fish? thanks x

I'm a newbie but can thoroughly recommend the five banded barbs and rummy nose tetra both active fish and fascinating to watch. The barbs are a little timid at first.

how does this sound?

6 fiveband barb
6 neon dwarf rainbow fish
6 cory julii
6 kuhli
12 emerald dwarf rasbora
2 bristlenose

5 schooling species in a 4-foot ~165l sounds an awful lot, I would personally reduce that to three groups (an upper midwater, lower midwater, tank floor) and instead of getting the bare minimum of six, think about adding viable 10+ groups. The bigger groups will not only look better, but give these species a more natural feel. Two BNs could work, but be aware two males could fight and a male/female pair could swamp you with 50+ fry per brood.

So in concluclusion, I would personally choose...
10 Neon Dwarf Rainbows (with max 3 males) or 15 Emerald Dwarf Rasboras
10 5-banded Barb
10 Corydoras julii or 15-20 Kuhli Loaches
2 BN Catfish
