a friend recently brought new fish from local store, only to find one of them looked to have/had finrot, (exposed bone through fin). Is it possible this could effect/spread to other fish. She took it back store, owner denied all knowledge. Rather that destroy it (like lps advised), friend put it back in tank and added 1 t/spoon salt.

Never heard this one before, how effective is it? Friend swears by it! Seems to have done trick, no signs of spreading yet!

Don't know your location but you will need a good bacterial med for finrot, how much of the tail has gone.

It wasnt his tail, it was his fin underside of the belly. you could see the bone, and it was white like cotton wool. But now it seems to fell off and left a red sore. That is healing.

Columnaris which can turn into ulcers, you will still need the bacterial med, good luck.

Don't know your location, US maracyn one and two, UK primafix and myxazin by waterlife.

Thankyou for your advice, I relayed it.

But...

On visiting my friend, it seems to be that the salt has done the trick and the guppy has fully recovered not sores, fungal signs and fin is healing nicely.

Sounds strange but does salt really cure fish illness??

Yes fish can heal them selves if they are strong, salt can help with a lot of deseases, sounds like the fungus wasn't to advanced, glad it on the mend. Good luck.

primafix and melafix(combined even better) are also in the US and are much preffered over maracyn
