Fin Rot/ Pop EYE

Ok that changes everything. No salt for your plec. NONE! And I would advise against table salt, not sure why though, just because that's usually not recommended.

Is there somewhere you can put the plec in the meantime?

Umm....temp. perhaps in ym bettas 1 GL tank or a bowl(if hes sick). its just for temp and then if the fin rot/pop eye still hasnt cleared up I would put him in my 55(that is if he isnt sick)

So what...should i go ahead and use table salt or not use it at all

EDIT:

I just Started changing water

Ok, I had to refresh on the table salt controversy. Table salt will be FINE. The only difference is it has an anti-caking ingredient, but that shouldn't be harmful to your aquaria. So go ahead and use it.

But still...the plec situation. I don't think he'd do well in a one gallon. And I'd be weary of moving him to the 55 too. Does he appear sick?

when you can get to the store 'Tetracycline tablets' they are your best friend now, me and a friend used it on a betta with popeye and it was gone in about 3 days but be warned it makes teh water real nasty looking if you have no filter so don't worry

here's some info on it Tetracycline

Okay so i got "Iodized salt" from the pantry...Its from walmart and contains 45% iodine....is this alright? So add 4 tablespoons to my tank when I get the plec out?
Also what is ant-caking....what will it do?

Thanks man...can i get those at the pharmacy...it'll might be a while till i get out to the store. Salt and melafix will have to do for right now.

Also when can I move my plec back in there?

It's basically an ingredient that stops the table salt from clumping, but from what I've read it can stll go in the home aquarium. Iodine is ok since it's found in trace amounts in most bodies of water anyway.

But really, why doncha just do the huge water change right now and add a bit of salt, maybe two tablespoons for now and then go get some real aquarium salt tomorrow.

EDIT~ Ok,too many cooks in the kitchen

The plec doesent seem that sick...but hes stressed out my the low water...hurry please.

where should I move him? will he be okay in a 5GL with 2 new guppies...Thet dont look that sick, Im just quarning them

Table salt is fine if you have nothing else, i've used aquarium salt, but now use household salt with guppies neons, goldfish nothing happened to mine, and it works better than aquarium salt, don't no why.

Just do your water change and think about where to put the plec a bit longer. You can mix up some salt and add it in when you make a plec decision. What do YOU think is best for him? You know what your tanks look like,I can't judge from over here. How big is he? Is the 5 gallon filtered and heated? Is it adequate enough to house him for a few days? Will it throw the 5 gallon into a mini-cycle and so on...

Well, he dosent look sick to me...I think Im gonna stick him in my 20 Gl with a pair of convict/honduran red fry(abotu 1 inch long) I think he'll do good in there untill I can put him back in the 30. Suggestions/ideas?

Sounds good to me  See, who knew you had a twenty there too?! You were holding out on me :p

Now you can up your salt dosage back to the originally planned 4 tablespoons.

okay, tanks(haha fish humor)

Well Im gonna do it! Thanks everyone for the help. Ill keep you posted on how it goes :D
