I heard somewher that Live Rock is all I need to filter my SW tank, is this true?

While I'm on the subject of Live Rock, can it die like fish? Is it hardy? Is it a animal or just rock with organisms in it? Will it move around the tank on me, and what do I feed it.

ps You dont have to feed it (fish/food waste will feed the colonising bacteria & no it wont move around your tank) :good:

1) yup that's true - Live Rock and powerheads, I do use filter floss in an external tho to polish a bit and to hold the carbon and phosphate reduction stuff (stops algea growing).
2) there will be some die off if you leave it out of water
3) it's the 'things' that live in the rock the do the work - dif types of bacteria
4) no, although lots of things will crawl/swim out of it, and _they_ will move around the tank.
5) some people will tell you that you do need to feed it in the long term - short term answer is no.

Thanks for that link! Anyway I have a question:

Lighting:

Really depends on what you are thinking of keeping in the coral dept., if you are going for softies (Really Nice & Easy to keep) then either T8 or T% Under the Hood or Luminare would do the job

What does T8 and T% mean?
