i went into acorn pets store today looking at the tanks, then as you do i wandered over to the fish section...WHAT A MESS!!!
there was someyoung lad who was treating several tanks with myaxzin, the lazy git wasnt even checking the measurements, that was until he saw me giving a deadly stare!! he then put the cup on a flat surface, checked it and poured some back into the bottle...............anyway, there was a tank with some platys and a little back molly in there, the water was minging, i stood for ages looking at the fish, and didnt see any signs of finrot, whitespot,y`know, no physical signs, so i called one of the girls over and said, " oh just what i have been looking for, ill take the lot"- i had noted the sex ratio,- and blagged that i was looking for just that, she didnt know how to tell the diffrence.thats says it all, as they have to be the easiest fish in the world to sex!

5 PLATYS AND 1 LITTLE BACK MOLLY ( ive never had mollies b4)

anyway i have brought them home quickley set up a 40litre tank, and added them and added the rec dose of melafix ( just incase!) there was no way in this world i was putting them in one of my established tanks!!

heres the question, i have used the media from the spare filter ( was running till recntly in my fry tank)in the new fry tank, so dont have any mature media at all to go in the filter, what i have done is add some cotton media ( like cotton wool but not, its filter media tho) and just turned it on, how do i get round this now, daily water changes ( bearing that i have used melafix) this is only a temp tank so it should be ok, its just basicaly for taking the crap out isnt it in an isolation tank??

ill shut up, im sure you know what i mean. all imput appreciated :):):)

If you do daily water changes it will be fine, just keep an eye on the levels :)

keep an eye on the cotton wool (polyfilter) too. +1 on water changes

Emma :good:

should i change it daily?? thats what i did when i used it for the fry, have stacks of it so not a problem in that way

I would say every other day IMHO. Letting some bacteria build up.

Emma
