Filterd Water

just wondering if i can fill my tank with filtered water without having to use tap safe? i have like a seperate tap in my sink thats attached to a big cartridge looking thing thats used to filter it . Also wanted to know if its safe to wash my filter pads etc in

What media is in the filter? RO membrane, carbon, polyfilter, DI resin, other?

guessing it's going to say on the cartidge thing somewhere then... (thought filtered water was filterd water)i'll go and have a look tomorrow morning before work and post back
