Would putting an airstone underneath gravel cause enough movement for bacteria to grow in the gravel and be like a filter? Im asking because I want a small jar for snails (for puffers), but i want them to stay alive. There isnt enough room for a real filter and my dad wont let me keep them in anything bigger then this small jar. Any ideas?

nope, sorry it won't work

you can get air operated sponge filters that sit on the bottom of the tank. The sponge (which is triangular or circular in shape) can be cut and made smaller if necessary. The dirt and gunk gets drawn into the sponge and every month or so you squeeze the sponge out in a bucket of tank water. The filter is run off an air pump that sits outside the tank.
