Filter Upgrade - Swapping Media

Hi guys

I recently upgraded my filter from a fluval 205 external to a fluval 305 external filter. If I move the entire content of media from my 205 to the 305, plus use extra can I just swap the filters? I am guessing that I will be transferring all of the bacteria, plus giving it extra space to grow so it will be capable of processing my tanks load as it currently is - or am I missing something?

you are correct.

However, the sponges wont fit the new 305 and some bacteria will have formed on them. You shouldn't see any large spikes when you move but it's worth testing the water 12hrs or so after making the change.

Maybe cram the sponges into one of the 3 buckets?

Cheers Zoddy - seems like a plan. There is plenty of extra space in the new filter so I should easily fit the sponge in the basket with all the other stuff.
