Just pour boiling water over it, soak it for 10-15 min just to kill any hitchers job done. Dont soak it longer or it will fall apart

hmmm, I can't seem to see any Fluval 2+ on ebay, new or used, i guess they don't make them any more either cos i can only track down the media.

I have however, been looking at youtube videos of the U2, it looks quite impressive with filter media capacity, i think i could add some additional eheim substrate in there instead of the carbon pads. But do you think its possible for me to make a sponge sleeve to that covers the side intakes? maybe with a sponge like this...

ntot sure how i could wrap it around without covering the vertical spray bar. I'm guessing elastic bands would disintergrate, but i could cut 2 parts of this sponge to the shape of the sides and using fishing line tie them onto the sides, what do you think?

lol, i was obviously looking in the wrong place! I think i prefer the U2 now though, i think the design and biological media space wins it. Plus anew one is more likely to be quieter

can flow come out of the top, spraybar and bottom at the same time on the U2?

i've done it, i bought the U2 and some sponge to make a makeshift fry guard! HOpefully will get them by the weekend so tat i can enjoy saturday making my tank up
