Filter Question

Hi all,
Ive recently bought some cherry red shrimp but in the 20g they are getting eaten and i dont actually see any of hte 30 i bought..... Upsetting.

Anyway, my brothers all tank is sittin in the garage. AR-380 tank i think it was from memory. 10Gallon tank.
If i was to remove the filter wool/floss and put it into the filtration system of my brother tank, would that be a cycled tank there after (I can use matured water from my tank also). My tank has been fully cycled for over 6 months now.

Im really keen on breeding these lovely little shrimp So hopeing this will work. I was planning to plant it as heavy as i could just to eat up any excess ammonia and such.

Would this all be ok?

Sounds like a good plan.
By the way, you wouldn't need to fill it with old tank water, if you wanted you could fill it with completely fresh (dechlorinated of course) tap water.
Or, do something like a 50/50 split of tank water and tap water. That way when you move them across the change shouldn't be too dramatic as it's only the same as a 50% water change.

Just make sure you cover the intake of the filter to stop any future shrimplets getting sucked up.

Just want it confirmed for my own peace of mind lol

Is it okay to just do 100% dechlored water then? Stats are exacty the same

Perfectly safe. If you really wanted you could always move the filter floss over n do a mini fishless cycle? 3ppm of ammonia should be enough for a colony of shrimp I'd have thought.

And yes if tap water and tank water are similar then 100% dechlored water will be fine.

Fraid its pretty impossible to find ammonia in my parts of australia... Did my fishess with fish food :\ so messy

But ill just look real close at the water stats. Thanks mate. Hmm say if i put in my little white noodle thingies too (which would remove half the canister filter media) would it be ok for my main tank (i will replace them with new fresh ones).
