Filter Question

I have a Fluval filter. The little yellow button that says that the filter is blocked is up. I've given the filter pads a good rinse (yes, in old tank water) and put them back in, but it's still saying it's blocked!

Can I give one half ot the filter a good blast under the tap to try to unblock it? Or will this cause a mini-cycle.

My LFS does not sell replacement filters and I'm going on holidays on Sunday for a week.

When the yellow indicator on the Fluval is fully up, that means everything is fine; when it starts go down, that's when the filter is starting to block.

Are you sure about that? I've looked at the booklet that came with the filter and that appears to say that the yellow button should be down and that it pops up when the filter needs cleaning, or at least that's how I read it. Also, if I take the filter canister off and leave the filter turned on then the button goes down, that would indicate to me that the button only goes up if the filter is blocked up??????

We've had the same with our Fluval filter but I think vinylman is right.
If you want to clean your filter then give it a good rinse in dirty tank water. Using tap water will kill off your bacteria.

If it's one of the Fluval + internal range then the yellow button should indeed be up - the pressure of the water forces it up to indicate good flow. As the filter clogs the button will gradually lower. Nothing to worry about - sounds like it's working perfectly. :good:

Ok, cool, thanks, I've obviously read the multi-lingual picto-grams wrongly! LoL!

Beautiful fish Ferris, what is it?

Pseudotropheus Demasoni - one of my favourite Mbuna species. :D

I haven't got any at the mo - that little guy was the last one I had.

They are extremely aggressive and are best kept in a species only tank or with other Mbuna species of a similar temperament.
