Really struggling with my filters flow rate. It's the APS 1000lph one and although it keeps the water clear it dosnt pick up any solid waste. Would it be better to get another smaller filter and place the outlet close to the gravel do it pushes the waste towards the inlets.

It's really starting to get annoying :-(

Hmmm, yeah, the APS 1000 isn't man enough to filter a tank of that size. I have one of the 1400 on a 180l tank, and that's as big as it would do, IMO.

as long as you do a thorough gravel vac with your weekly water change you will get rid of solids. Also you could up you live plants which will use them us too.

I've got the APS 2000 on my 240L and it does the job just nicely... it seems that the bigger aps filters are alright but the 1000 really drops flow after not very long. You could try a TetraTec EX1200 - had one of those on my 240 too and again it was good.

No not really. It'll mostly waste electricity. If you've very sensitive or wild species then they can be of benefit, but otherwise are not really necessary imo. I had mine on for a couple of weeks and it made no difference whatsoever so I turned it off and haven't used it since. However, if you get that filter you have to fit the glass sleeve that is supposed to cover the UV bulb, otherwise the filter leaks.

I have the APS 1400 on my 120 litre and so far so good. The water is crystal clear and my fish love swimming in the current. I'd heard about the poor flow rates and was advised that when you choose the APS filter for your tank then get the next one up which is what I did!! .
Hope the filter works perfectly for you.
