Filter On The Rio 240

i hate this nonsense.

listen,

as rabbut says, very fairly, the 1200 will do as it is an awesome filter and far far better than the horrible juwel thingy.
however most people do run 2 externals on their tanks for the following reasons

1. in case one breaks, you have a redundant system (more or less)
2. so you can clean one and leave the other, so you always have 'good bacteria' (i use that quote lightly)

the 10x turnover rule mainly applies to heavily stocked tanks with messy fish or planted tanks (like mine)
it is optional that you run two filters as the 1200 is perfectly capable.

i feel that the 10x turnover is getting almost as silly as the 2WPG crew (in order to grow plants)

rabbut is talking absolute sense here guys and you ignore what he says ????

You've just totally contradicted yourself because on your last post you quoted "the more filtration the better"

I think the general idea was to promote having 2x very good filters versus 1x exceptionally large filter for the size of tank.

My 2075 will "cope" with 600 litres (manufacturer's claim), I have a 400 litre aquarium. But I plan on cichlids, so rather than getting a single huge Eheim I went with the 2075 initially and I'll likely add another as the bio load rises. A bit of redundancy and plenty of clean water, nice combo really.

I'm aware of the benefits of having 2 good filters as opposed to one great one, although it is down to everyone's personal preference.

The reason I suggested the FX5 was because at £140 from that website it would be cheaper and do the same job as 2 'good ones'

Also regarding your 2075, I think I'm right in saying that eheim are one of the only manufacturers that actually put the actual turnover rate on their products with the media been taken into account :good:

As the tetra 1200, barely pushes 600lph with media, its in no way up to the job, a 2400, perhaps.
and i feel, many, people have two externals. not for some "perceived" advantage. but because adding another filter, is the best way to upgrade filtration. without upheaval to, what are often, mature and stable tanks. once the two are "bedded in", there is no redundancy either. as the boi mass is split between the two. what i can say form experiance is, it dramatically increases the time between cleans. i did my hydor prime 30 yesterday. it was last cleaned on the 7th of january. my eheim 2224, was last cleaned in october last year! ( i have a large section of floss, in the hydor, to polsih the water. this gets clogged, so it needs more frequent cleaning)!

Is that from experience? I have two TT EX1200's on my 83.2g Discus tank. I then watered the power supply into the equipment cupboard, that forced me to run just one filter, and the heater, as that's all I could get enough power across to run, shortly after setting the second up. The lone filter coped fine biologically with the load, though there were one or two floating bits in there, nothing major mind :good: This 83.2g tank is "overstocked" with 8 6" Discus, 20 corrydorus, about 10 tetras and 4 Plecos getting between 4 and 6 feeds a day, as much as the occupants will eat in 5 mins each feeding.... Trust me here, on a 240l tank with normal stocking and normal feeding, you will have absolutely no issues running a single Tetratec EX1200 on it :good:
