Hi, im thinking about getting a small tank to set up for a hospital/quarantine, it would only be an 11 litre tank would it be ok to only have a large airstone instead of a filter if i do one water change a week of about half to 2/3?

you can find filters, what about a sponge filter for the pump you was planning for the airstone, there only a few pounds, and if you not using the tank just place the sponge<if you have room in your main filter,if no just place the sponge filter in your main tank running to keep it matured....failing that just have a couple of small fish living in there keeping tank cycled

So an airstone wouldn't provide sufficient filtration along with the water changes?
Do you have a website that shows exactly what you mean? do you mean a small filter that goes onto a air pump and pipe? like a BiOrb system?

um err not sure of bio thing....this is a picture, all you do is connect it to the pump tube you would use for the airstone, airstone will not filter any way shape or form, this will filter and airiate tank, mine cost 6pounds
you can get them at local fish shops or ebay

yes your welcome, you could run it in your betta tank to keep it matured, alot of betta keepers have these filters as small and cheap and very little flow, i had it in my bristlenose plec tank with a male/female and over 100 fry :good:

I'd assume these ones would do to?
I would but i have a good filter in atm (Interpet PF Filtration) but i'll see might change filter

Hi there

i have a hagen bio sponge filter working off an airpump in my 30l tank which is going through a fishless cycle at the moment,i intend to use this has my fry tank :)

Here's one similar to mineaquatics online

Just thinking, how can these filters work if they r on an airpump and airpumps blow air out?

I attached airline from the airpump to top of filter,it blows through the filter and out the top via another tube blowing out the bubbles just over the water line. :)

Yes but how do they filter the water?
Does the water get sucked in somewhere?

i assume the air sucks through the bio sponge filter and pushes back out through the top outlet, just has a regular filter would.

The water goes through the sponge material to the tube that runs through the sponge. The bubbles rising up the tube make the water move with them which draws in more water through the sponge. The sponge is the filter and needs to be cleaned once in a while. It is a bit easier to see the flow path on one like this but they all work about the same. You mount a tube on top of the central attachment so that there is a longer tube for the bubbles to rise in. The bit of tube at the top of the filter sticks all the way down through the sponge.
