Last night one of my filters died on my 55 gallon. Luckily I still have one on there that should get me by until Christmas (Finally getting a canister filter!) But I'm worried about my filter media. I was able to stuff the remaining filter with two sponges from the dead filter, then I have two others floating in another tank. I'm not worried about the 55 gallon because it's very lightly stocked, but I'm not sure about the media floating in the other tank. Does the media need water running through it to survive? Or will it be fine for awhile?

Swish it through the water every hour or so just to give it some ammonia to feed on.

You could always put an air stone below it to get some flow going through it.

Thanks,
Steve

Really can't do that since I have school :/ Thanks for the suggestion!

Good idea! I'll do that when I get home! Will that be sufficient for the next few weeks? Not a huge deal I guess, but I like to save all the bacteria I can! Thanks for the help!
