Hi quick question (probably going to be one of many)

when you put the filter media in what order should it go in please?

its for an aqua one 850, the tank is i think 175 litre, its the filter that came with the tank

Mechanical filtration first, biological media last.

I have a coarse sponge, wool and ceramic rings, do I need a fine sponge and carbon sponge?

A fine sponge will help to "polish" the water. You only use a carbon sponge when you are removing medications from the water.

+1 to KISSfn.

Add them in the order you have them. Coarse sponge first, then wool, then ceramics.

Wool goes last in my filter, in the top bucket on top of the last layer of ceramic rings, i dont put it in very often though ^^

Hmm...I thought the biological media is the last thing in the system. I thought that was used to keep the flow over the bacteria as fast as possible.

If its blocked before the ceramic or afterwards, then i doubt it would matter, the flow would be the same me thinks?

Good point, but maybe it would be more uniform. Maybe that's more what they mean...

Dunno :D

All i know is that its easier to put wool into the top than lift out all the cages and spill water everywhere in the process just to put it in the bottom :D Besides, i think it actually said on the box, "place in last tray before pump exit" or words to that effect.

Man, i'd glad its Friday, i feel like i've been in work non stop for 10 days. :|

Well, to be fair, most filters also say to replace the cartridge every two weeks.

Ok so could I add a fine sponge at a later date or should I do it now?

Thank you so much for all the replies as well god you guys know your stuff lol
