Right, im doing a fish-in cycle (not my fault)

But ive managed to get my hands on some mature filter media. Im going to collect it on wednesday

What do i do with it when ive got it? Is it just a case of stick it in the filter and wait?

basically yes thats about it. just keep an eye on your water stats and water changes

Obviously keep it wet whilst you are transporting it.

Its good to use some common sense studying your filter also. The filter designer will have wanted water to flow through the filter in certain ways and you don't want to either allow water to escape filtration or for media to block filtration flow overly. If you consider how and where the designer placed various stages of media in the filter, you can often better substitute the often foreign type of incoming media into a place where the filter has media of similar properties. (this still usually amounts to simply placing the incoming media somewhere obvious, despite all my words there :) )
