i have my filter media (pads) in a bucket if tank tank water, is that ok? Or will it lose beneficial bacteria?

Also can someone tell me how long carbon pads are effective for taking out meds?

Cheers :)

if there is no ammonia source then the bacteria will slowly die off, keeping it wet is a good idea but it really need ammonia unless its only for a short period of time. there is much debate about how long bacteria take to die off but i wouldnt leave it in there too long.
carbon again people say a few days some say a few weeks so...........

yes that would be ok but dont over do it with the ammonia as you will only have bacteria for a certain amount. although thinking about it with no fish in the bucket just media i dont suppose it would matter as there would be nothing to get ammonia poisoning if too much was added.... not 100% sure but i dont see why it would be a problem, it may even build up your colony :good:
