Filter Help!

I Dont like the filter that i currently have in my tank it takes up far to much room and i was wondering if there are smaller filters??

Which are the best ones??

Are External filters any good??

My tank id 70litres and contains 8 fish all around 2" long so theres alot of waste

Suggestions please
