Hi, need help fast please, my tank filter was not working properly so i took out to clean. It has a lot of sludge in bottom, can i throw this away, or do i need to keep some, as it wont go through my fine sieve.I have give the pads a squeeze & replaced the wool pad but will there be enough good bacteria if i throw it?

Dont throw any pads out. you can replace the wool if you want. The sludge in the bottome needs to come out & just give the pads a swish around in old tankwater & replace.

+1, another area inside your filter to give a clean is the impeller and where it is housed.

Keith.

All sorted, just needed to know if chucking the sludge away would leave me short of bacteria, but now you have said its fine, everything is ok now.I only intended to throw the wool pad anyway. Think i over did my cleaning yesterday, as i needed to add a bag of limpopo to my fine gravel & guess i accidentally sucked some up when adjusting the inlet. Chears for help all :good:
