Filter Help

Well I have a aquaone cf 1000, you guys also helped me set it up, it has never been truly right and have had bad times with it, dreading that it is going to flood our top floor flat. £ times in a row now I have found the filter sat in a puddle and tested it, there is water extremely slowly leaking from somewhere...

So can someone recommend me a quick fix or an internal 100g capacity? I havent the money to fork out for a new external and my first impression of externals is not a good one..

Hey hon, yeah. It hasnt been an entirely happy bunny, anytime turned off and restarted during water changes it makes horrible noises which gradually subside no matter what I do. And yesterday there was a puddle, thought might have been me water changing, but again this morning and again when home...typical!!!

Thats the problem, got it second hand with the tank from the store just as a deal.. so no receipt

As to gasket...uhhhhhh Is that on the inside underneath the top bit? Put the blooming thing in a deep tray for now to contain the leak which seems to be front left on the bottom of the filter..

Both say the item has been removed.

Have you check the O-Ring, which is the rubber rin around the underside of the power head? They can get small little knicks and splits in them which can be hard to see, which in turn means slow water leaks and air being taken into the filter. If there's nothing obvious, smear a good portion of vasoline around it before inserting it again.

Thanks for the advice, didnt get a chance to look into further last night. Luckily it is a slow one, getting home about 4pm today so going to see what exactly is going on with it.

Eyeing up externals not particuarly happy if have to fork out for another one so soon but rather that than flooding..seen Filstar XP3 that might be able to get for £40-50, FX5 for £70 and others in that genre for £50. Have tried looking eheims but too pricey for now.

If you have the space, shell out the extra for the FX5

If not, check out the All Pond Solutions filters on Ebay. I've yet to read a bad report about them and although I haven't had mine long, I'm impressed.

Small update bought a Rena Xp3 for £40 plus postage and he says he will throw in a eheim as well (assuming a smaller internal) so to await its arrival now. I didnt actually realise the cf1000 was actually inadequate (meant for tanks up to 200 litres), the one I have gone for is right stats. Thanks so much for helping out, Im still going to inspect the cf1000 (actually must do that now) if it is saveable always run as second filter or on the figure 8 tank.
