hiya all

well i just went out and bought a fluval 205 external filter.

well as its got no media in there, what shall i put in there

it got 3 baskets, and can hold 4 sponges

well i want to put my sponges from my internal filter (fluval plus3) in there so i still have my bactira,
but what else can i add with my old sponges,

in the 4 part sponge bit i was going to ad my 2 old sponges and 2 new sponges for a fluval 205, whats the best for the baskets

also i must mention i do have 2 box's off synthetic wool here aswell if thats any good

If its a new fluval 205 they should come with media...

Anyway i would put all your filter media from your internal in there if you intend on swapping over,this will help clone the filter,has long has you don't add any more fish to soon,it should handle the same present bio load has the internal.you could also add in the baskets,biomax noodles and sponge media.

get lots of ceramics in there and pack polywool around the edges. you could also add carbon if you believe in it

was planning on some corys in about 2 weeks

so whats the best i should get for my 3 baskets then?? all the same or 3 diffrent types, best recommended i would like plzz as i will buy off ebay 2nite

also will the filter be ok with just 2 sponges in there or should i fill all slots and baskets up 1st b4 i use it. cheers shane

what established media do you have at the moment? is it just sponges?

if so.. put the established sponges in the holder thing along with some new ones to fill the rest of the space. the in the top basket i would put ceramics. second basket i would put carbon. and third i would put some more ceramics with polywool over them.

for best filtration you want to get as much media in there to give the largest surface area for bacteria without compramising the flow of water

i jusst bought what they told me to do on the fluval page, its the correct set up so it must be all ok.
