As above really I'm just looking for a cheap filter for a 1000 litre tank, what is suitable? Thanks

That's roughly 265 US gallons. In this range, you are really looking for a sump type filter or several canisters. Their price is going to be considerable for both types of filter. You could get away with several high quality HOB type filters as well.

If I had the choice, I would save a little longer and get a great sump type filter. Really, filtration is not something to scrimp on. The better your filtration, the healthier your tank will be.

1000ltr tank.....?! Did you have a spare bedroom which you have sealed up and filled with water..!

Sorry I missed all these replies! I forgot I started the topic! The so called tank is actually an IBC with the top cut off! (International Bulk Container) It is 1m cube! Nelly I was thinking of running one of them with maybe a pair a golden cobras? If possible?

If you go for canister filters you'd really need 2 large ones.

You in UK?

If so, how about either:

2 x fluval fx5's or
2 x tetratec ex2400's

although the volume of water is great I'm only planning on keeping a pair of snakeheads. I think 1.2x turnover will be sufficient!??

I'd always aim for minimum of 4x turnover but like you say you are only keeping 2 fish.

I dont really know about snakeheads so i'm not sure how sensitive etc that they are.

If you find that just over 1x turnover will be ok then i'd recommend the tetratec ex2400
