Hi i would really appreciate some help on this issues. I have a new tank set up or a month or so now with an intrepet filter that I got with my tank. I have the flow down to the lowest but last night I found a guppy sucked into a part of it. Needless to say I was upset poor little guy. So from what I've read tights over the filter is the way to go. So what part do I cover so that it still works. Advice or tips please as I really don't want another fish sucked in.
Thanks in advance for all the help.

You put the tights over the inlet part aka where the sponges are, can try and cable tie a piece of tights over the outlet nozzle to diffuse the flow either that or get a spray bar or aim it to the back of the tank.

As harsh as it sounds, healthy fish rarely get sucked into even the most powerful of filters. My small barbs can swim right up to the outlet of a 3000lph powerhead, they can definitely outswim a filter. Its only normally fry that get sucked into a filter.

I doubt any more fish will be sucked in.

To be honest the fish that was sucked in was a weird looking one that I wanted to give back but couldn't so threw her in. I think her back had been broken when she was younger so you could be right. The only thing is I've got female guppies and I don't want them to get pulled in while giving birth when then are weaker. Will the tights not effect how well the filter cleans the tank? I do have a fry tank so I'll move the females into that if I think they are giving birth I'm just worried I'll be too late if it's in the middle of the night.

If you're going to put the tights on, i would turn the flow back up or else you'll just stop filtration, but no reason not to if you're expecting fry.

It will need cleaning off every few days to keep it clear, but you'll have clear water!
