just found out my aqua one 600 flow rate is 400L per hour, would you say that's good, water is crystal clear, what is your flow rate???

Is that the actual flowrate or just the pump rating for the filter?

most filters for small aquariums have relatively poor turnover IME but at 6x turnover (assuming it is actual flow) then that is very good

mmmm, not sure Dave, it say's exchange rate is 400L an hour it seems a lot to me

its the power head rating dave.

@op you have a bit less than 200lph once the filter has bedded in.

my flow rate is just over 1000lph real (about 1400lph on box claim) using two Eheim 2224's. that's on a 190-200l tank.

Thanks Raptorrex, I suppose it's the old adage, never believe what you read until you've tried it.........lol

how true.

most internals quote the power head rating.
not the true flow of the filter, complete.
but using a 50% reduction, on the claimed, is a good "rough" rule of thumb

externals are a bit more complicated.

most quote a flow rate connected with the while filter.
even so, some quote without media and furniture (pipes inlets and outlets)
some with minimal. and some with full recommended media and furniture.

i checked how many makers worked out their claims, some years ago.
only Aqua One and Eheim quote with full media and furniture. even so, their claims were about 20-30% over optimistic.

unfortunately, most of the rest were in the region of 50-65% over optimistic.

it can be a minefield.
