I just found an old foam filter I forgot I had. It has been stored for a long time in the garage so fas dust on it.Would it be ok to boil it to make sure it doesn't have anything to hurt the fish from being stored? Also tried to post this in another forum but wouldn't let me post.Anybody know why?

Just rinse the media with loads of clean water. You could pour hot water through it but I doubt whether that's necessary

Wash the filter out well and let it dry. It should be fine unless you have gotten chemicals on it, like from gardening supplies or such.
As Doresy said, your status will keep you from posting in most of the forum until you follow the link you should have gotten in an e-mail.
