Hi guys, I've got a fish tank now that is arround 4 weeks old, and i'm just wondering if I should take the filter pads out and squeeze them in the tank water that I take out of the tank when I do a water change?

Is this the correct way to go arround it, or not?

How oftern do you do this?

My filter system looks like this:

(Left Box= Filter pads and Right Box = ceramics?)

What's the correct way and how oftern should I swish them in tank water than i've taken out for a water change?

Many thanks,
Scott :good:

You rinse out the filter media whenever the flow starts to slow down very much. That way the filter can keep moving plenty of water through it and you don't end up cleaning it when it is not really needed. A more important part to clean when the filter is apart is the impeller and the well that it sits in. That part of your filter will stop working very quickly if you don't keep it spotless. For that part, I use a bottle brush and clean thoroughly using running tap water.
