Filter Choise?

After posting about the use of 2 filters I am now looking at upgrading my existing one. I have a spare external which I hooked up last night but decided I didn't want the extra pipework so took it down. As my misses said "you have already spent alot of money on your setup so why not just spend the extra to get it right and exactly how you want it!

What would be the best filter to connect to a fluval vicenza 180l?

I am going to utilise the bottom inlet and outlet as I don't want to put any more pipes in the tank. I have heard that 5+x flow is best so was looking at a fluval 405 (1300lph). Would this be the best or what is there that would be better?

A Fluval 405 external would be more than enough in that tank. But as they say, you can't over filter! You could go for a 305 if you wanted to save a bit of cash, but it will allow higher stocking levels having a better filter.

You wouldn't need to go any higher than a 405.

I think a 405 may appear in the cabinet soon then. Is that the best manufacturer? or is there a better one i.e. EHEIM or someone?

Good choice, an excellent filter. I've just got myself a 2nd hand FX5 off one of the other members, a small beast of a filter

EHEIM are pretty good aswell, the Pro series are decent. Your better off researching them both, weighing up the financials, asking members who have used them before and then adding up the pro's and con's then finalising your decision, as both brands make great filters.

I have just had a look at the spec for a FX5......Wow!


I'm guessing that would be major overkill in my tank!
