ok, so i have a tetratec easycrystal filter thats not working. I took it all apart cleaned it out, nothing blocking it, it just wont work. I cant take it back because i dont have the receipt :( (this would have to happen on a weekend)

Now the problem is i can't get a replacement till probably tues as id have to get it off the internet. What can i do to help the fish survive for that time and not have them all die because they have no filter? i figured daily water changes would be sufficient to get rid of toxins etc. Just want to make sure that will be ok as theres not really much else i can do at the moment. It's a 60l tank.

Any tips would be appreciated! thanks.

not up on this filter, is it internal or external, try to get it working first, have you check the impeller?
funny but is plug swithed on? fuse's in plug and house fuse box working ok?

Internet, took it apart cleaned it all out, nothing. I think i hear a slight bussing noise when i put it to my ear but nothings moving :( i've tried it in 3 different plug sockets, doesnt work with any. I'd just given up hope with trying to get it working.

Such an unlucky day, chest infection, badly hurt my foot and a broken filter!

I did a water change today anyway. hopefully my fish will be able to withstand a few more days of it.

If it's quite new, contact Tetra and they will likely help.

If you have plants in your tank, its a good idea to temporarily move the tank next to a window if possible. Basically this wil give the plants a lot of extra light to help with the water conditions. You may get some algae if you have to do it for a few days, ut fish are more important :good:. Try to cover up the area of the substrate exposed to the front glass panel with something, black electrical tapes good. This is to stop the daylight getting in there and likely causing algae problems.
That on top of 50% daily water changes should easily keep you going for quite a while if you cant get a filter.

Save the filter media! Don't through it out. Get some of the tank water and put it in to a ziplock bag or something and then use it when you get a replacement filter.

Hi Luceh7 :)

In order for the beneficial bacteria in your filter to survive they need both food and oxygen. Without water circulating through the filter, they will get neither. I've kept it alive for several days, during a power outage, by periodically pouring water into the filter by hand. If you can't do this with your filter, you might try putting the media into a clean nylon stocking and hanging it in the tank. You would then be able to dunk it up and down from time to time to get water through it.
