I have a bluwave 07 filter (http://www.ferplast.com/bluwave_eng.php)

and my LFS has said its a crap filter, any views on this ? I have a juwel vision 180 bow front tank with this filter in and its been up and running circa 3 weeks but doesnt seem to be taking any of the ammonia / nitrites out the water. nitrates is upto 10.

could it be that the filters not working right ? i brought it second hand.

if so what would people recommend buying ? ideally so i could transfer media from the current one to help with the cycle

Doesn't look like a bad filter, but I've never seen them before. For a tank that size I think I would go for an external canister personally. LFS has a vested interest in persuading yout to replace it! The filter is still immature at ten days, so give it a bit more time to build up a culture

Million is right. Filters don't come ready to remove ammonia and nitrite, you have to build up a colony of bacteria to do that for you. If the flow is nice and you're happy that's it's working, it just sounds to me like the LFS is taking their chances with getting you to buy another filter.

Some filters are better than others, but that's not to say the ones that aren't as good are bad.

I'm guessing you've got fish already - have you read up on fish-in cycling?

been there done that read everything possible on fish in cycle lol (see my other threads etc)

anyway as it happens last night my readings were ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 10.
with no water changes for 5 days. will check them again tonight, im hoping still 0 and the cycle will be complete (fingers crossed)
