Filteer Media/ Sponge Pad Question

Do you have to use specific sponge pads for your filter?
I have a eheim 2213, it's filter pads are near £30 for new ones, but surely i could buy cheaper ones and shape them into a circle and fit them in?

As long as you cut them to an exact fit you'll be fine; if there are gaps around the edge the water will bypass the sponge altogether.

I'm with Tizer though; why are you replacing them; it probably uneccessary; I've got sponges that are well over 20 years old.

Even ones that you think are past it can be revived by washing in hot water. You will, of course, lose your good bacteria doing that, so you can only do one sponge at a time, but at least you don't have to shell out for new ones (why yes, I am remarkably mean )

Well i bought it seond hand and the sponge seem pretty ...yeh.. ok might do that, thanks for the tip
