i recently bought 6 guppies and theyv been bothering the life out of my fighting fish, i have put the fighting fish in a small tank by itself will it be ok in ther for the time being?

+1.

Its apparently something to do woth the fancy tails.
You'd really want someone who knows for sure about this though as I've only read it on here a few times and haven't had the experience myself.

It's odd, normally you read about the fighting fish going after the guppies, not the other way round. He should be ok seperated.

Fancy tails makes fish swim slower, so it's not so easy to out swim a fish if it's trying to nip it. Male fighters mistake male guppies with fancy fins as another fighter, so they get aggressive. Guppies can be rough though. Are they all male guppies or a mix of male and females?

I think alot of people would love to have a tank with guppies and a male betta, shame they just can't get along. I believe I have heard of some people who have managed to pull it off, but it's not easy or recommended.

It's not recommended to keep bettas and guppies together. Most people will say this is because bettas will mistake guppies, with their flowing tails, for another betta, and attack. And this can definitely happen.

However, as you've found out, guppies can be quite the fin nippers themselves, and not every male betta is aggressive. I have lost bettas to aggressive male guppies in the past, very peaceful males who never so much as flared at anything else in the tank.

You will need to keep them separated. Bettas, in my experience, are far betta living alone or with very peaceful tankmates like corys. It's not fair on either the betta or guppies to have them live together.

my fighting fish is very peaceful and hasnt bothered anything else,my guppies are fine in the tank apart from 1 which unfortunatly died. And my betta is doing fine in the other tank alone.

As said there not ideal tankmates for this very reason (especially if the guppies are males) what size is the smaller tank? is it heated and filtered?
