My amazon swords are turning yellowish which i know is of lack of iron :(

I add ferts weekly but i would like to add more iron regularly, just for the benefit :)

can i add chelated iron? or anything else fairly cheaply which is aquarium safe for the amazons? i don't want to have to dose ferts so often that i have to pay for more fertilizer every week because that is frankly very time consuming.

also is normal garden plant fertilizer safe?

Thanks :)

No to the garden fertilizer.  I won't go into the reasons now, but only say that aquatic plants have different needs and terrestrial plants require nitrate which is not useful for many aquatics directly and this can raise nitrate to unsafe levels for most fish.

To your swords, it may be iron deficiency but it may be something else.  Lighting can do this, as can lack of several nutrients.  If you could specify what fertilizers you are now using, plus the GH of the water (no need to test, the GH of your tap water will do as this is unlikely to change much unless you are specifically targeting it in the aquarium).  And detail lighting just so we have the data.

I'm not familiar with that brand.  Presumably it is a UK product (I'm in Canada)?  I did a search and found four different products under this name; can you post a link to the data about it?  And what is your light?

Now that I know what it is, here is a link to some data on the product:
http://www.easylife.nl/en/freshwater/profito
According to what they say, it should have sufficient iron and other nutrients, but of course who can say.

What is the type of light, thinking Kelvin, etc?  Sorry for all the questions, but diagnosing a problem requires having all the data.  Any chance of a photo of the plant?

Sword plants are heavy feeders, and I find that substrate tabs make a big difference in addition to a good complete liquid fert.  Iron is important, no doubt, and I find I need to add this in one tank but not another.  The tank I add it also has a tad more light intensity, being shallower, so this may be part of the equation.  A photo if you can may help.
