With a play sand substrate and low lighting, would it make sense to use fertilizer tabs in the sand or should I just continue to target the water column? Within the next month, I'll be upgrading filtration, and a month after that I expect to upgrade lighting and add a CO2 unit. I have trace element tabs and am thinking of buying a comprehensive tab today.

I have a low light tank. No CO2 only Flourish excel. If I don't use the flourish Tab My Vail will not grow. I can't find any of the tabs and my stupid Val looks like poop. But when I have those things in it looks good.

I'm new to the planted tanks. But I notice a difference if I don't use them in my low light low tech tank.I also have play sand.

As long as you provide a complete water column fertiliser such as TPN+, root tabs are unnecessary inconvenience IME.

Dave.

Vals are what is doing the worst in this tank. The sword is doing much better, which I find surprising. I dose iron and potassium. I also dose Flourish comprehensive. The tank was scaped so that the vals were going to be a very important plant in the tank, on the edges.
