It would be worth reducing the food going into the tank whilst the filter is sorting itself out again. I would drop down to half amounts, and only feeding twice a week for 2-3 weeks.

You still need to buy that water testing kit and be doing at least 50% water changes every day until your tank is fully cycled - just because you havent lost any more fish or they 'look ok' doesnt mean they are not under stress and pain. Your fish will be suffering from stress and poisoning and by making daily water changes you can lessen this. Even If your fish are not showing any signs they will still be suffering as they are living in poisoned water!

Ammonia poisoning symptoms are

Lethargy
Loss of appetite
Hovering at the bottom of the tank (especially for surface dwelling fish)
Gasping at the surface
Inflamed gills
Red streaks or inflammation in the gills
Inflamed eyes or anus


Nitrite poisoning follows closely on the heels of ammonia as a major killer of aquarium fish.

Nitrite poisoning symptoms are

Fish gasp for breath at the water surface
Fish hang near water outlets
Fish is listless
Tan or brown gills
Rapid gill movement


Now you know not to change your sponges and why - they will last for years! Remember only EVER rinse in your used tank water NEVER put them under the tap or all the good bacteria you have grown will be killed!
