i just got a GBR to go with my male gbr. it has a pinkish belly, and no were near as distinctive marking as my male( he is showing off bright blue flecks, and has a reddish tinge at the ends of his fins) the fins of the gbr i got are kind of short. i can't upload any photos. but i was wondering if this is a male or female GBR, and if it is a male, if they wil do fine together in a 20 gallon long by them selves

If it has a pink belly, it's a female :good:

alright thanks, also do you know how to get them to breed, i have been feeding my male omega one, small cichlid pellets and he loves them. and i could add some flake food that is high in protein and a color enhancer called "zoo med brine shrimp food flakes" do you think this will help?

Make sure the tank is well planted and make sure you have some flat stones in there for them to spawn on.

Keep the water very, very clean and warm enough and feed them up as much as you can. All the foods you mention are good, although some live, or frozen' live' food would also help.

Apart from that, it's just a matter of waiting :)

alright thanks for answering my questions and reply so fast

You're welcome; best of luck!

thank you

thy are both hiding together, the male has been in this tank before, but i got rid of some fake plants, i added 2 amazon swords( i know they will grow big, but i will trim them if needed) and i added a peice of driftwood with some type of anubias. they are both togethe right now, and are doing great

Just a quick tip. If you want the babies to survive once the females belly starts getting big that is a sign of pregnancy. Either buy a breeding trap or buy LOTS of REAL plants for them to hide so their mother doesnt eat or gobble them up.

Rams don't eat their fry like livebearers do, although young pairs might eat the first few broods, until they get the hang of things. Cichlids normally make very good parents, and will guard their fry.

thanks for the info, i know the cichlids will eat any infertile eggs and they are good parents, so i will let them do there thing, and im starting to add plants now, i have 2 amazon swords, 1 anubias and some fake plants so far
