I got a male and female krib about a month ago and the female settled right in. The male on the other hand has not had a chance since the female beats the crap out of him every time she sees him. I took the male out for a bit heal up, now i have added him back with another more mature male in hopes that the female will pair with one or at least divide the fighting. The males actually are getting along but the female is still going out of her way to attack them. Any suggestions?

Two options, one, Remove the female, Totally re-arrange the tank, then after a while add the female back, if that does not work, rehome her and get another, It does really boil down to each cichlid are different, also tank size?

Kribs are strange, brought a male an female once, at first the female bullied him to heck then the other way around, then had a krib who showed no aggression to anything untill about 2 weeks after putting discus in the tank, saw her have a go instantly in a breeding trap and put on ebay. Best thing would be to buy a group wait for 2 to pair then sell the rest.

Thanks, i will try to get a couple more and see if any pair.

best way to go mate, forcing pairing wont always work :good:

I originally got two males and two females, at first the two females stuck together and the one who ended up dominant was "flaring" and dancing for the other female and would beat up on both males. After a bit she paired up with the bigger male and they both started chasing the other two. The lower female and male didn't want anything to do with each other. Now they've also paired. I ended up giving the dominant pair to a friend and keeping the less dominant/less aggressive pair as I also have 2 pair of apistogrammas. This worked out for both my friend and I since he wanted a pair for his 55g tank.

If the pair I kept get too aggressive to the apistos I have a back up plan (cycling a new 30 gallon with mature media).

Kribs are Africans by the way :p

I always had problems in the past with over agressive males killing any females in the tank but leaving everything else alone :p

I have just returned the female to the tank and added another female. It seems that the dominant male is tired of the females bullying and is fighting back. I think the fighting has definately been distributed and toned down. Hoping to get a pair soon.
