One of my adult female guppies has been having problems with her insides for a while. At first she seemed to be pregnant for a VERY long time (months) without having any fry. Then her tail started pointing downwards and she began laboriously passing heavy segments of ?poo (poo-coloured but VERY thick). Then she passed what looked like a thick oblong sack with aborted fry (seemed to see little bodies in there). Now she has been straining since yesterday passing what looks like a big white semi-transparent sack with nothing in it.

What do you reckon folks? Could it be the aftermath of a miscarriage? Or worm-related? I have had problems with parasites with her earlier tankmates. Her vent is white and swollen rather than red (well, it would be swollen seeing the size of what's coming out of there!). No sign of little white worms or thin stringy poo. I feed my livebearers a varied diet including veggies at least twice a week and daphnia or bloodworm once a week.

I am keeping her isolated in the hospital tank. She is still showing an interest in her food, but today I've kept her tank lights off and not fed her yet as I thought I'd let her pass her bits in peace. Once she's got that out , I'll fed her half a pea, she loves that. Am thinking of soaking it in TetraGeneral Tonic as that helped the tank during an outbreak of parasites before- waht do you reckon?

She passed it, I netted it and brought it out. It looked like a thick blob of white jelly, maybe 1 centimetre long, 3-4 mms across at its thickest. She is moving more freely, though still with bent tail, and is eating greedily.

I would say she misscarried, it can happen when females hold eggs in them for too long and in an effort to prevent the the womb from growing muscular around the eggs and cealing them inside her, the female fish aborts them and starts growing new ones. She'll be a bit fragile after this so just try to keep her enviroment as stress free as posible and feed her some nice veg and high protein foods like bloodworms or daphinia and she should recover fine  .

Thanks, will do. She is looking very bent still. But at least she is in the hospital tank so not being harrassed. Will try to get more plants tomorrow.
