All of a sudden my loving pair of eliotti has taken a very bad turn. They have been happy in the 71 litre and have 30 odd fry that are nearly a month old. They both dug another huge pit and had all the signs of spawning again, even to the point of seeing loads of eggs. Came home tonight to see the female struggling, she is totally exhausted, my OH said that the male had been chasing the female constantly all day. I work during the day you see. So the upshot is the female is in a large net suspended over the tank, her breathing is laboured, the male is skulking under the net. I'm worried that when I leave the room he will try and get to her through the net also may he start attacking and eating the fry. Now I don't really want to move her adding more stress. I don't know if the male will get on with the female in the 4ft. I have got a little tank with a heater (but no filter) I could possibly put the male in, untill things resolve one way or another. Would appreciate a quick response as I've got to get the OH to work at 5am tom morning. Oh and the 60litre has two spot (Eliotti) in it so that is defo a no go area.

OH NO!!!!!!!!

Would two spot harm the other male or vice versa if you placed him in the same tank? I know it's not ideal but worth a go? Maybe take 2s out and then rearrange the tank and add them both back in at the same time?

Also you never mentioned you had fry!!!!!

I really need to book my idea's up and arrange to get 2s from you or whichever one you decide to get rid of! (and some fry ;) )

Well, up-date I set up the small tank, heater only, but will do daily water changes and the male is in there. The female is still in the net in the tank with the fry, she is lying on her side, breathing heavily but is moving her fins abit. Tank light is off, fingers and everything crossed, she will be OK and can rejoin the fry. Defo no no putting him in with two spot, that would be fish murder. No problems in the future I'm still interested in the kribs and you are welcome to what surviving fry I have. I'm hoping for some more females to address the balance. Oh the joys of keeping fish. God only knows what I would have been like if I'd ever had kids

Lying on her side doesn't sound good mate. :(

Maybe sometime next week i could get over to fetch 2 spot. I have 5 baby Kribensis that are about an inch long if you want them. They're big enough to not get eaten and are starting to show a bit of colour.

Well I'm off to bed alarm goes off at 4am tomorrow, wish victoria luck, (Albert is giving me the evil eye from the windowseal) Two spot is flaring at me from his tank. My fish, I just love em.

Oh no, sorry to hear this hun. Hope she pulls through. If its do-able, can you not try and separate them with a divider. I did this with my Jacks few months back as my female nearly beat my male to death. He was beaten, torn and looking very sore with open wounds all over him. Put a divider in the tank for 4 weeks and he healed up, when i took the divider out they have been fine ever since.

For my divider i cut up a mesh-like tray from a big pond filter. Bought it cheap enough at my LFS :)

Hope this helps, get your OH to DIY something up for you ;) Every man loves a DIY opertunity...well i do :p

Thanks Verminator. Well thank god I kept a smaller tank back. She is still with us just. She is breathing OK, gills look a good colour and side fins are moving. It's her rear end I'm worried about, feels stiff, could he have damaged her. She was upside down in the net this morning, I moved her over to where the spray bar is to get abit more flow over her. She is now back over in the corner (still in the net) I have managed to get her up-right, it's heartbreaking the fry are swimming up to the net as if to say, com on mum. I keep talking to her too. I feel deep down that the end is near, I just hate giving up on fish. If and when she does go, I'll put two spot in the 71 litre, Albert in the 60 litre and the fry in the baby tank, will try and get pictures of them, they are so cute. The juvi Eliotti that survived in the 4ft, I will defo keep as it's got a permenant smile on it's little face. Oh and to cap it all in my haste to rescue victoria I dropped the glass lid of the tank and it smashed. All in all not a brilliant time

Sounds good mate, my male krib is soooooooooooo lonely. I will defo sort something out for you, you never know there may well be other stuff you can take home with you, will make your journey worthwhile. Just let me know, apart from work, I'm not going away on both holiday weekends. :good:

Any news on Victoria?

Lol, what else have you got? Pm me a list of things you want to move one. Are you interested in anything else? I could maybe help if I have them. Lol.

Victoria is with us still, what a fighter. Its the rear end I'm still worried about, Its almost like riga mortist has set in, she is breathing well, side fins moving well, eyes are moving. She looks well beat up. Is my earler prognosis wrong, could it be something else??? She is trying to move but not so good. I'm really at a loss at to what to do. Can fish who have suffered trauma have post traumatic behavioural problems, I would be really interested to learn about this, if anyone else have come across this before. It also could help other people aswell. Thanks

:rip: Victoria, I tried, but you were too tired. Hopefully your fry will carry on and create a wonderfull new generation. :byebye:

Was so sad to learn of this earlier on. Fingers crossed for some good fry!

On a side note, did 2 spots fry survive?
