Female Egg Sac Burst?

I wonder about liquid fry food or something. It really sounds bad for the little girl

I put her in a seperate 1/2 gallon bowl and didn't transfer her after her treatment last night. This AM thought I'd find her floating again... She's alive and ready to eat! Pretty bad off looking but wanting to keep functioning. Can't decide if I should put her back with her sisters or not. what do you think jollysue?
There are pros and cons on either side... This way she doesn't have to get shoved around and also to compete for food... but then it's like she's in special ed and an exception made and maybe she's lonely for them...?? Her stomach contents still trail out so no wonder she's so hungry. I gave her powdered fry food but she didn't know what it was.
I didn't know any being on the planet could be alive and be so bad off.

I guess my concern would be if infection set in, would it affect the others? Ruptured intestines in humans is really bad. I don't know. She's a spunky girl and deserves to have go.

Happyannie: So sorry to hear about your girl, how is she doing today? She sounds like a real fighter and I hope she pulls through this.

Thanks for your good wishes. I'll enclose a photo of her. She's up and about today and trying to eat. REsponds to my presence and enjoys being talked to... so I dunno.... when do you decide to pull the plug? I'll wait I guess. I think she enjoys being an olny child and not in a group home with her sisters.
I'll wait until I think it's the right moment but at the same time keep up her treatments too. You never know...
PS the blue you see is the bio-bandage stuff. Kind of a difficult wound to bind up as it's so big!

if it makes you feel any better i have a yellow VT male who developed some sort of internal infection that ate a whole through his side and he pulled through. It's all patched up now though there's some scarring. He wasn't eating at that point and didn't for two months, but eventually he pulled around. If your girl can take small foods than feed her, but i would agree with feeding her something smaller. daphnia, perhaps.

it's scary how thin they get when they aren't eating, but the ones with fight are hard to kill. there's still hope for your girl, just make sure you keep the water pristine because bacteria now has an freeway into her. All i did for my guy (because i wasn't sure what was wrong) was keep his water clean and keep him in a dark out of the way place.

I'm not sure what the heck caused this... I'd love to know though.. She's feelin frisky today and you just never never know. I'm going to just keep her in her little bowl and trade out the water every single day when I do her treatments. What do you think of putting a heating pad under her? She's right by a heat vent so I've been cranking up the heat in the house and closing off the vents in less used rooms just to keep it toasty in the back computer room here. How about a desklight ..?? Just speculating as her way is only 1/2 gallon.. She eats flake food crumbled up very very fine.

i personally would be wary of a heating pad. i know some folks have used it, but you would have to unplug it constantly so the water temp would be in constant flux. and if you left it plugged in it could easily start a fire

Yeah, I know what you mean... I'm considering plan B which is putting her in a 5 gallon with heater and maybe in a breeding net thing attached to the side to contain her a bit. It will come to me what to do... thanks!

I put her down awhile ago. Kind of a sad ending except it just the right thing to do for the animal when they're fighting such massive infection. I just wonder what the heck happened with her and HOPE the other females don't go the same direction! A superficial autospy showed a gash of sorts on her side with much tissue exposed... down to intermal organs in one spot. I wish I knoew more fish biology, to be helpful to the other survivng girls.
So she's in my garden now under the New England Astors which the fall butterflies and big yellow fuzzy bumblebees have been really loving.

Sorry to hear of your loss its terrible when you lose a fish like that.

If it helps at all I lost a female in a similar matter she was egg bound or something and couldnt reabsorb eggs into her system and couldnt expell them she burst and died but its not contagious or anything so the other girls shoudl be fine good luck

Thanks alot sue and everybody for your wishes. Himmel-thanks for posting that. I suspect that might be what happened. I've been looking thru the tank to see what could cause such a wound and don't see anything that sharp... One of the Clown Loaches is pretty aggressive about defending his food and even tears into me if I don't move my hand away fast enuf from the bloodworms. ... (step away from the bloodworms..) His little feelie-ma-bobs aren't that sharp either... so...
I guess it's all a part of fish-keeping to have things happen in these special creatures. We're lucky to appreciate and enjoy them for a little while. Thankfully we have cats and dogs that are a little more sturdy and pretty warm to curl up with too.
