Can you put females together? Just preparing myself for what I should do/get next.... assuming my little guy doesn't make it, he is not doing well. Should I get a different breed? I would like something easy to take care of. I do love the looks of the male bettas but hate that you can't put them together. Also if I get another male and want to add some other fish, should I get the male first or introduce them all together? How long should I let the tank sit empty -- no fish-- before I can add more, it has had my fish in there for 7 months, but due to him being sick and having no clue what is going on with him I have moved him to a bowl with meds-- on the advice of lfs..... thanks! I've also noticed pics of tanks with quite a few different bettas are those all female can you mix females with 1 male... then if mating is that a whole other ball park of responsibility?? Thanks!

Hi
I have no idea of what tank or anything you have so i will try and be generalised. Firstly, no never keep male bettas with females unless spawning under specific conditions. Females can be housed together, however it is advisable to keep at least 5 in a 15 gallon+ tank. This is because females can be quite aggressive to eachother.

Regarding how long you can keep a tank empty - If it has a filter, the bacteria will slowly die off if no waste product is present to feed the filter. You can help by adding a pinch of flake food every other day.

sorry, it is a 10 gal tank...... now empty due to sick fish. Had just 1 male in there, so was trying to find something to put in to add a little more life to it. One was ok, but prefer to have more if possible.. FYI the one I have now is on his death bed, so he is out of the pic, starting out fresh...
